Hello everyone, just been catching up on posts. Feeling a bit fed up, no one listens at appointments, I just come away feeling nothing has been done yet again. Its always oh its the fibromyalgia.
Anyway, this evening I fell in my kitchen, slipped on a wet patch. I landed on my bum with legs out in front, but hurt my right knee. Now my right hip is sore (from bum downward) and already have hip problems as had a depo jab in July. My next appt is September with the specialist nurse to see if I still have the pain, and to maybe switch to mtx injections.
Sometimes I think "whats the point of even going, nothing changes" I know I will come away with the same comments. Even though I say I am in pain, I am just told that everything seems fine.
Well, had my moan, will get ready for bed now, and prepare myself for tomorrow morning at 7.30 when the boys arrive. Take care everyone xSmile

Hello Barbie,

You need to SHOUT at your apt. Speak to PALs at the hospital, they are 'the patients voice'. Tell them how you feel and the problems you are having with the dept. You will soon notice a difference.

i did this last week and within an hour, had a call from the Rhuemy nurse who was part of my moan.

SHOUT and make some noise, refuse to move from the dept if you have to till you get some answers or plan of action.

Hope this helps, stand your ground Barbie, I have learnt this very valuable lesson over the past week, you have rights

Trace xx

Yes i agree-you HAVE to make nuisance of yourself. Something else that i have found effective is to write a letter to your Rheumatologist and tell him exactly how you are feeling. I too am sick and tired of being told I'm doing well, when it hurts.

The last thing we need is a fall to aggravate our joints too. Poor you.
YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

I agree too Barb. I think the idea of taking yourself off to the department and refusing to budge until you are not only seen but get some answers is excellent. I know we shouldn't have to make a fuss but, sadly, we do. You could even shout at your GP and say you want much better support than you have had in the past.

Sorry things are so bad.

I know I've said this befiore, but a call to the helpline may prove useful.

Hi Barbara

You poor thing, you didn t need to fall on top of everything else, hope the pain is easing since you posted and taking lots of pain killers to help you.

You certainly do need to make a fuss at the next appointment, let them know you are very upset and at the end of your tether, unless you really spell it out to them they just don t understand what a terrible a time you are having at the moment. I feel sometimes they just see us as another patient and just can not appreciate how much we can suffer with such a painful and debilitating condition.

Take care, Julia x

Thanks everyone, I am exhausted and in pain. My ankles are really swollen, my hands hurt, my hip is no better than it was before the depo jab.
I saw my gp last week, but its the same old story, she wont do anything without the consultants permission. I think the two senior gps may help, but you wait weeks for an appointment with them.
I go back in September, so I can wait until then, its just the same as ever/
.I look after the boys three days a week, then rest up and the ankles go down a little, until the next time. I'm off to bed at nine, hopefully to get some sleep.Sad

hi Barbara,

sorry to hear you're having a rough time.

i've had 4 Depo injections in total, 2 worked well and 2 didn't so understand what you mean.

i hope you get all the help needed with your appointment in September, it's just not good enough when you are left to suffer.

Hi everyone, well, things are the same, my hip is actually worse, and having read a post from Ellie saying she has trochanteric bursa, I think I may have that too. Like she says, they never tell you anything so how do you know what they're thinking?????
I cant remember having slept for more than an hour or two at a time for around3 months. I had a depo jab which did nothing at all, and I rested as my appointments are always on Fridays.
I am going to have to learn to be more assertive!! I have to get something sorted. Its been over two years now, and I'm still on the same meds!! Even though I say I have alot of pain and swelling.
I even dread going to bed as after half an hour or so the pain starts, it burns and shoot down my leg to my knee, no matter how slowly and carefully I move the pain is agonising. I don't think the doctor and nurse realise how bad it is.
Wish me luck!!! Take care ev everyone x x xHuh

Hi

Just wanted to say, when Bernice was about 5 mths old I tripped and fell over and hurt my knee. These old ladies came over and helped me immediately. They were amazing! they hawled me up and coo'd and clucked over Bernie! Lovely! It took ages to feel anything like right again and I was ever so shaken up by it.

Actually, I had RA in there already but it got a lot worse and now of course I cant straighten that knee at all.

I do think you need xrays at least.

Take great care.

Hi Barbara

I replied on your other post about trachanteric bursitis so won't repeat myself! What I would suggest is that you write everything down before going to your appointment, the inflammation, level of pain, insomnia, concerns about the meds and lack of improvement. Then put forward your suggestions about dealing with the problems in an orderly way. If they can see you have spent time considering your problems you might get a better response.

Unlike others I don't believe in the making a fuss, shouting approach, I suspect they would regard me as a completely hormonal female and pack me off for the next 6 months!! If they see you have researched your problems and can make reasonable suggestions to deal with the problems you might get a result. Could be worth speaking to the Helpline to see if they can suggest how you approach the appointment to get best effect.

Good luck,

Lyn x

Thank you Lyn, have just replied to your post on the other thread.
Thats a brilliant idea to write it all down!! Although I have done this before with the consultant, he always turns away, and begins writing, and I find this disconcerting, and somehow makes me feel his isnt listening. At every appointment we go through the same routine, which meds I take, and the doses. He does a quick examination and then says that he thinks everything is going well. I say, I am in pain, and he doesnt reply. When I ask why I am still on the same drugs he says that everything seems well controlled, and that any pain is from the fibro and not the RA
As is the nurse I'm seeing I'll have another go. Wish me luck x
